Why did you choose this project?
It looked interesting and I wanted to try something new.
What did you enjoy most about the project?
I enjoyed seeing letting the car go and watching it go really far.
What have you learned from the project?
I learned about the conservation of energy, friction and momentum. I also learned that making videos is more work than it looks!
How did your parent or mentor help you?
My dad helped film the video and taught me about the science principles. A neighbour also helped us by drilling a hole in the axel rod.
For the intermediate age group (9-12): briefly explain the underlying scientific theories behind the project, why you chose this method and equipment, and whether the experiment is repeatable and why?
Conservation of Energy is where you can never loose energy, you just transfer it to different forms. In my project the conservation of energy was shown when I pulled the spring back because I transferred energy to the spring and then the spring gave it back by pulling the string and turning the wheels. Friction is the transfer of energy that comes from things rubbing against each other. Momentum is the fact that object remain in motion unless a force works against it (example: friction slowing down my car's wheels).
