Borax Crystals

Why did you choose this project?
I chose to make Borax crystals for my project because this is a Robo'gals' competition and everybody knows a girls/gals best friend is diamonds/crystals, so why not show you how to make your own with household chemicals and teach you the science behind the formation of real crystals at the same time?! I also thought this would be great for girls of all ages, education wise and entertainment too

What did you enjoy most about the project?
I enjoyed experimenting with what worked to get the best results and of course filming and editing the video... Oh and I can't forget, The final result is definitely something I enjoy looking at everyday... It's sooooo sparkly!!

What have you learned from the project?
This project pretty much taught me how crystals form, as I never really would have looked into it before.

How did your parent or mentor help you?
My dad helped me direct the video and set up the camera equipment as well as reinforce the message that we need an adult mentor helping in the experiment. It was promoting safety for younger viewers. Oh and how could I forget; he wore pink gloves to match my pink girly theme!

For the senior age group (13-18): briefly explain the underlying scientific theories behind the project, and any formulas or calculations used in the project.
This process supports the theory of how crystals form and I had to calculate the correct amount of Borax (3 Tablespoons of Borax to every cup of water)
